There is some debate within the medical community whether benign mesothelioma, like malignant mesothelioma, is caused by exposure to asbestos. Benign mesothelioma, also known as benign-fibrous type, is now referred to within the medical community as Solitary Fibrous Tumour of the Pleura if the tumour is found in the lining of the lungs.
There are non-fatal forms of mesothelioma, and they are known as benign mesotheliomas. These are usually harmless form of mesothelioma. The benign abdominal multi cystic mesothelioma is a rare disease. Usually a malignancy of the ovary is suspected prior to and during surgery. Usually a malignancy of the ovary is suspected prior to and during surgery. The histological diagnosis and the clinical course however are benign.

Benign Mesothelioma is a non cancerous tumour that appears more in men than women and usually starts in the tissues under the mesothelium. Benign mesothelioma is a rare disease characterized by the presence of a fibrous tumour in the pleura, the membrane that surrounds the lungs. Benign mesothelioma is a non-cancerous tumour of the pleura (lining of the lung and chest cavity). Non-malignant mesothelioma is usually a localized tumour that affects men more frequently than women.
However rarely mesothelioma victims can develop a milder tumour called Benign Mesothelioma. Although both are tumour diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos Benign Mesothelioma has a short latency period in contrast to the malignant type which typically has a very long latency period. Benign Mesothelioma is treated by surgery alone while malignant mesothelioma is treated by different modes of treatment including surgery, and chemotherapy.
