Benign mesothelioma is generally composed of a single, non-cancerous tumour within the lining of the lung. There is some debate within the medical community whether benign mesothelioma, like malignant mesothelioma, is caused by exposure to asbestos. Benign mesothelioma, also known as benign-fibrous type, is now referred to within the medical community as Solitary Fibrous Tumour of the Pleura if the tumour is found in the lining of the lungs.
There are non-fatal forms of mesothelioma, and they are known as benign mesotheliomas. These are usually harmless form of mesothelioma. The benign abdominal multi cystic mesothelioma is a rare disease. Usually a malignancy of the ovary is suspected prior to and during surgery.
